BMW three button keys were not meant to be taken apart for battery replacement. If the distance to lock/unlock has diminished, then this is the video for you. If your key just failed, you may require a completely new key from BMW, but try this route first as the replacement battery is less than $5, while a new key from BMW will be closer to $200. If you lose programming within the key, just turn turn the ignition on and off (first position) five times, remove the key and then press unlock three times. Use regular household glue or a milder version of krazy glue to assemble it back together, keep in mind you may want access to the circuit board in the future. If your circuit board is bad, you can purchase a used key on eBay and just switch the boards out (along with the battery) instead of buying a new key from BMW. Then reprogram as stated above.
