Specifications: The Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder is currently one of my favorite models in the market. It is a HD video camera that comes with an 8.59MP image sensor. When on still mode, it can capture still images with up to 8.02MP in resolution. This model comes with a pop-up flash and also a tiny remote control. It has 10x of optical zoom and up to 200x in digital zoom. The lens on this camcorder has a 6.4mm – 64 mm focal length. It also has a spacious 2.7-inch LCD display that can be rotated in various directions. It doesn’t have any internal storage where all the videos are stored directly into the SD card. In terms of connectivity, it has a component video output, microphone ports, headphone ports, 1 USB port, a HDMI and composite audio/video output. This camcorder ships with a battery pack, power adapter, manuals, video editing software, USB cable, stereo video cable, wireless controller and a component cable.
Design: The powerful specs of the Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder is balanced by stylish designs. This camera has black exterior (with a hint of silver glossiness). The whole camcorder looks like a short solid cylinder with the LCD screen attached to one of its sides. The camera lens looks huge in proportion to the rest of the camera, giving it a very professional look. I think this model is one of Canon’s best looking cameras! It measures at 2.8 x 5.4 x 2.7 inches and weighs at just 15.9 ounces.
Features & Performance: The Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder has a new custom dial that allows you to conveniently select custom settings. Most of the external controls were very well placed where your fingers can easily reach it. The menu interface has also gone through some noticeable improvements (it has a smoother feel). The quality of the videos recorded at 17 and 24Mbps were very impressive. Exposures were excellent at the colors were very realistic. An optical viewfinder and a more sturdy lens cover would have made it the perfect camcorder. The Canon VIXIA HFS100 camcorder may be a little on the pricey side, but if you can spare the extra cash, it is definitely worth every penny.
