A lot has changed in the last two months for the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. The Eagles appeared to have no playoff hope while the Giants appeared destined for the Super Bowl. Oh how the tides have turned. Philadelphia is perhaps the hottest team in the league entering the playoffs on a five-game winning streak while New York hardly deserves to be a part of the post season losing six of their last eight games. But really, none of that matters now as each team is in the playoffs and each team has placed itself one-step closer to the ultimate goal.
If we use last season as a guide, we can write Philadelphia in right now as the Super Bowl Champions following in the path of last season’s hottest team entering the playoffs-the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think we can all agree that that’s jumping the gun. Jeff Garcia has filled the big shoes of Donovan McNabb down the stretch beyond all expectations. No one can say that they honestly thought Jeff Garcia would lead the Eagles out of the cellar and into the playoffs and finish with the fourth best quarterback rating in the league. I’m not sure now is the time to jump on the band wagon and say that Garcia will continue his stardom in the playoffs. Garcia has appeared in just three career playoff games winning just one of them with that win coming four seasons ago against, ironically, the Giants. Now that Philly has high expectations and the added playoff pressure to match, we’ll see if Garcia is still able to perform.
Three weeks ago Philadelphia put up 36 points against their division rivals and the following two weeks the Giants allowed 30 points and 28 points to allow 31.3ppg in their last three games. New York’s defense has been torched through the air. Their play of late might just favor Garcia and Philly’s passing offense.
The Giants will have their own offensive recipe and it will come in the form of Tiki Barber who has put together another remarkable season. In all the hoopla surrounding the Eagles, the fact that they are allowing 136.4ypg on the ground has been lost. Tiki should be able to win this battle.
The bookmaker’s have obviously had to favor the Giants with the way they have performed late in the season versus how New York has played and also with this game being played in Philadelphia. The question remains if the books have given Philly too much of an edge. The good news is that Jimmy Boyd has gone inside every nook and cranny of this matchup and he’s ready to deliver his biggest play of Wild Card weekend this Sunday.
Will Tiki enter retirement on a sour note with Tom Coughlin waving good bye right behind him or will the Eagles finally run out of luck? Take on this weekend’s highest rated NFL Playoffs play with Jimmy Boyd and send your man home crying like a dog with his tail between his legs.
