The WikiLeaks founder has been granted bail by a British court – but with strict conditions. Julian Assange must surrender his passport, adhere to a curfew and wear an electronic tag. The whistleblower has been in British custody for a week, after Stockholm issued an arrest warrant in connection with rape allegations, which Assange firmly denies. Swedish prosecutors are appealing the bail decision – which they must lodge within the next few hours before Assange can walk from the court. They want to question him, even though the country’s chief prosecutor cancelled a previous warrant saying there was no reason to suspect that he committed an assault. The WikiLeaks site is still operating and continues to publish confidential American diplomatic cables. Lindsey German from the Coalition of Resistance says Assange is fighter for democracy, not a criminal.
