RFID Tag

The RFID tag is a satellite-linked PIT tag scanner for seals and sea lions designed to detect seal consumption of PIT tagged fishes. The arrow in the lower left “data panel” indicates the point in the data record that corresponds with the video. When there is no PIT tag being detected the data indicates a “0″, and it switches to “1″ when a PIT tagged coho smolt is in the RFID field. This tag will ultimately be used to quantify seal predation rates on threatened salmon stocks. It is a joint project of the UBC Marine Mammal Research Unit, Wildlife Computers, and the Vancouver Aquarium.
